RidePoynt Terms (Draft for legal review)
For travellers. Read together with the RidePoynt Privacy Notice.
Last updated: 23 Oct 2026 (draft, not in force) Provider: ePoynt Technologies Ltd (RC 9009902), Abuja, Nigeria Scope: RidePoynt — seats on shared car trips between Kano and Abuja, booked and paid for through RidePoynt.
Read these together with the RidePoynt Privacy Notice, which says what we hold about you and the people you book for.
⚠️ This is a draft for legal review. It is not in force. No booking is taken under it.
In these terms, you means the person who books and pays. A traveller is each person who travels on a seat you book. You may be one of the travellers. An owner is the person whose car makes the trip. The driver is the owner, or a driver the owner names and we approve.
1. What RidePoynt is
RidePoynt connects travellers with car owners who drive between Kano and Abuja. Owners post trips. We sell the seats on those trips on the owner's behalf.
⛔ The owner provides the transport, not ePoynt. The owner is the carrier for the trip. We do not own the cars and we do not employ the drivers. We act as the owner's booking agent. Your contract for the journey is with the owner. Your contract for the booking service is with us.
We check every owner, driver and car before a car is listed, and again at least every three months. Section 11 says what that check covers and what it does not.
2. Booking
- You can book a seat until 6:00 p.m. the evening before the trip.
- You book without an account. We identify you by your phone number.
- Give your email address when you book. Paystack needs it to take your payment, and we also send your ticket there.
- To see a booking again, ask for a one-time code. We send it to your phone. It works for 10 minutes.
- Give a correct name for each traveller and a phone number that works on the day of travel. The driver uses it to find the traveller.
- Next of kin for each traveller is optional. We use it only in an emergency.
- Book a seat for every traveller, including a child. A child who travels without a seat of their own is not covered by these terms yet.
- A child under 18 must travel with an adult traveller on the same booking. When you book for a child, you confirm that you are the child's parent or guardian, or that you have their permission.
- We send your booking's messages on WhatsApp, from ePoynt's WhatsApp number, and to your email address as well: your ticket, the result at 6:00 p.m. the evening before, each traveller's pickup window and driver card, any change, cancellation or refund, payment links, and the end of the trip. Each other traveller also gets their own pickup window and driver card, and any change to them, on WhatsApp. A one-time code comes on WhatsApp only, and in English until WhatsApp offers its code message in Hausa.
- Messages come in the language you choose in RidePoynt, English or Hausa. So do the messages to each other traveller on your booking. We send no advertising and no offers.
3. Price and payment
- A seat costs ₦30,000, in either direction.
- The price includes pickup and drop-off at a landmark inside the service areas (section 6).
- You pay when you book, through Paystack. We do not see or store your card details.
- You pay the owner through us. When you pay, Paystack sends the owner's share of the fare to the owner and our booking fee to us.
- The price shown at checkout is the price you pay. It includes any tax that applies to it.
- When you choose your first seat, we hold your seats for 10 minutes. If payment does not complete in that time, the seats are released.
- If your payment completes after the 10 minutes, we keep your booking only if it is before 6:00 p.m. the evening before and every seat in it is still free: not sold, and not held for someone else. Otherwise we refund your payment at once. A late fee or a bag charge from an earlier trip that was part of that payment counts as paid, and is not refunded.
4. Seats
- Every seat has a number. You choose your seats from the seats that are left.
- ePoynt may take a seat off sale on a trip, for example when the seat is damaged. The seat map then shows it as "Not for sale".
- Every car has 4 passenger seats: seat 1 in front, and seats 2, 3 and 4 at the back. Seat 3 is the back middle seat. A car may be a saloon or a hatchback.
- Every car has air conditioning that works, and the driver keeps it on for the whole journey.
- You may book more seats than you have travellers, to keep space for yourself. Each extra seat is marked "Kept empty for" the traveller's name. The driver must not fill it. It may hold one medium bag at no luggage charge (section 8).
- A seat number is fixed once you pay. If the trip moves to another car, you keep the same seat number where that car has it. If it does not, we contact you before the trip.
- The owner can change the car or the driver until the first pickup, which is when the driver first presses "Arrived". If either changes, we send you and each traveller the new driver's name and photo, and the car's make, colour and plate, on WhatsApp.
5. When a trip runs
- A trip runs only if 3 or more seats are sold by 6:00 p.m. the evening before. An extra seat kept empty counts as sold.
- If fewer than 3 seats are sold, the trip does not run. We offer you a seat on another trip that runs on the same day in the same direction, or a full refund. You choose.
- If the owner cancels a trip that was going to run, we offer you the same choice.
- We cancel a trip if its car or its driver cannot run it, for example after a failed inspection, a breakdown or an accident, and the owner does not change them in time. We also cancel a trip if we end the owner's listing, but not a trip that has already started: it runs to its end. In both cases, we offer you the same choice.
- Choose by 7:30 p.m. the evening before. If you have not chosen by then, we refund you in full. If a trip is cancelled after 7:30 p.m., we refund you in full and offer no move.
- A trip's date, direction and departure time do not change after you book.
- Trips travel in daylight only. Pickups start no earlier than 6:00 a.m. The car leaves the city by 8:00 a.m. at the latest.
- A journey takes about 6 hours, and up to 8 hours with checkpoints and traffic. These times are estimates, not promises.
If the car stops on the road after a breakdown or an accident:
- The driver stops where it is safe and calls ePoynt support. After an accident with injuries, the driver calls the emergency services first.
- RidePoynt shows the trip as "Stopped on the road", and we send you a WhatsApp message. ePoynt support's number is on your ticket.
- If the car is repaired and goes on, the trip continues. There is no refund, because journey times are estimates.
- If the car cannot go on, ePoynt support decides so with the driver, no later than 1 hour after the car stopped, or sooner if waiting would bring you to your destination after dark. The trip then ends there. We refund every traveller in the car in full (section 9), and help each one find onward transport from the nearest town. A traveller who was a no-show (section 7) still gets no refund. The onward fare is yours to pay.
- The owner may instead take you on in another car that RidePoynt lists, with an approved driver. The trip then continues.
- After an accident with injuries, ePoynt support calls an injured traveller's next of kin, where the booking gives one. Claims for injury or loss go to the owner's motor insurance (section 12).
- ePoynt support may also stop a trip on the road when it is not safe to go on, for example after a safety complaint about the driver. These rules then apply in the same way.
6. Pickup and drop-off
There are no RidePoynt terminals. Every traveller is picked up at a landmark and dropped at a landmark.
- A landmark is a place the car can reach and stop at safely, such as a filling station, a junction or a well-known building. It is not a door address.
- Pickup and drop-off happen only inside the service areas we set in Kano and in Abuja. If your landmark is outside them, we show you the nearest meeting point.
- A meeting point is a public place we list in each city. Choosing one makes pickup quicker for everyone.
- For each landmark, tell us where the car should stop. You may also drop a map pin. A pin is optional. The driver can open it in a map app on the driver's phone.
- Each traveller has one pickup and one drop-off, so a trip has at most 4 of each. A traveller with an extra seat has one pickup.
- On the day, a traveller may ask the driver for another drop-off landmark inside the destination service area. If the driver agrees, the driver drops the traveller there, at no charge.
- A traveller may ask to get off before the destination, at a place where the car can stop safely. The driver records the drop-off there. There is no refund for the rest of the journey.
- By 8:00 p.m. the evening before, we send each traveller a 15-minute pickup window on WhatsApp, and we send you every window on your booking (section 2). If ePoynt support changes a window after 8:00 p.m., we send the new window the same way.
- With each pickup window, we send the driver's name and photo, and the car's make, colour and plate. Do not get into a car that does not match.
7. Waiting time and late fee
The driver waits for each traveller. After a grace period, a late fee applies. The late fee pays for the driver's extra waiting time.
- The waiting time starts at the start of the traveller's pickup window, or when the driver arrives, whichever is later. A traveller never pays for the driver's own lateness.
- Grace period: 5 minutes, with no fee.
- Late fee: ₦500 for each started 5 minutes after the grace period.
- Cap: ₦2,000.
- Maximum wait: 20 minutes. After that, the driver may leave. The traveller is then a no-show, and section 9 applies.
Examples: a traveller who is 4 minutes late pays nothing. At 7 minutes late the fee is ₦500. At 13 minutes late it is ₦1,000.
- We work out the fee from two recorded times. The driver does not type it.
- When the driver presses "Arrived", the driver's phone records its position once. We keep it as evidence if you dispute a fee. If the phone recorded no position and you dispute the fee within 7 days, we refund the fee.
- We send the fee as a payment link on WhatsApp. If it is not paid, it is added to your next booking, and that booking cannot complete until it is paid.
- To dispute a fee, write to info@epoynt.com within 7 days of the trip.
You accept these waiting rules at checkout, before you pay.
8. Luggage
There is no scale at a roadside landmark, so you declare luggage by size when you book.
| Size | Roughly | Price | |---|---|---| | Small, on the lap | A handbag or a small backpack | Free | | Medium, in the boot | Up to about 15 kg | Free, one per traveller | | Large | About 15 kg to 25 kg | ₦2,000 | | Extra large | About 25 kg to 30 kg | ₦4,000 | | Extra medium bag | One per traveller, only if the boot has space | ₦2,500 |
- A bag over 30 kg, or goods for sale, are not carried. RidePoynt does not carry parcels.
- A car's boot is small. We stop selling luggage space when the boot is full. Each traveller's one medium bag always has room.
- The driver checks each bag by eye at pickup. If a bag is clearly larger than declared, you pay the difference by payment link.
- If nobody declared a bag, the driver marks its size. You pay for it by payment link at the price in the table, as if you had declared it. A small bag stays free. If the boot is full, the driver may refuse the bag.
- If a bag charge is not paid, it is added to your next booking, and that booking cannot complete until it is paid.
- To dispute a bag charge, write to info@epoynt.com within 7 days of the trip.
- The driver may refuse a bag that does not fit. The driver photographs the refused bag.
- Do not carry: fuel, gas cylinders, explosives, weapons, illegal drugs, or anything else the law forbids. The driver may refuse any bag they reasonably suspect.
- Keep money, documents, phones and other valuables with you, not in the boot.
You accept these luggage rules at checkout, before you pay.
9. Cancellations and refunds
- A cancellation covers the whole booking, with every seat on it.
- You cancel before 6:00 p.m. the evening before the trip: full refund.
- You cancel after 6:00 p.m. the evening before the trip: 50% refund.
- No-show (section 7): no refund.
- The trip does not run, or the owner or ePoynt cancels it: full refund, or a seat on another trip (section 5).
- The car stops on the road and cannot go on (section 5): full refund, unless the owner takes you on in another car.
We start a refund on the day it becomes due. Paystack, our payment provider, says a refund can take up to 12 working days to reach you, depending on your bank. If a refund cannot reach the account you paid from, ePoynt support calls you on the phone number on your booking and asks for a bank account in your name. Before the refund is sent, ePoynt staff check the account's name, as your bank gives it. It must hold each name you gave for yourself when you booked, at least your first name and your surname, in any order. A name may differ by one letter, added, removed or changed. Where Paystack recorded the payer's name on your payment, the account's name must match that name too, by the same rule. If the name does not match, give another account in your name, or bring an ID card in your name and your booking to ePoynt staff in Kano or Abuja. The account must then match the name on the card, by the same rule. Staff check that the card's name is the name you gave when you booked; another spelling or a middle name is fine. We never ask for your bank account by WhatsApp message or by email.
10. Conduct and safety
- Security checkpoints on this route ask travellers for valid identification. Carry one.
- Wear your seat belt for the whole journey.
- Do not smoke in the car. Do not be abusive to the driver or to other travellers.
- The driver may refuse a traveller who is drunk, violent or abusive. That traveller is a no-show. The driver calls ePoynt support, and ePoynt staff record the refusal and its reason. ePoynt support then calls the person who booked.
- You can share a trip link with your family. It shows the trip's date, status and times. It does not show a map. If the car stops on the road, the link shows that, but not why. The link stops working 24 hours after the trip ends, whether it is completed or ends on the road.
- To report a problem during or after a trip, use "Report a problem" in RidePoynt, or call RidePoynt support on 0806 154 8208.
- In an emergency, call the police or emergency services first.
11. What we check, and what we do not
Before a car is listed, and again at least every three months, a person at ePoynt:
- looks at the owner's vehicle licence, roadworthiness certificate, proof of ownership and insurance;
- looks at each driver's licence and identification;
- inspects the car against a fixed checklist: tyres, brakes, lights, four working seat belts, air conditioning, a boot that takes four medium bags, and cleanliness.
Before we approve a driver, the driver meets ePoynt staff in person with an ID card and the driving licence. Staff take the photo you see before pickup.
We record who checked what, and when. A car cannot run a trip if one of its papers has expired or needs a new copy, if its inspection is late, or if it failed its last inspection. After a repair, the car can run trips again when it passes a new inspection.
⛔ We do not confirm documents with the authority that issued them. We do not check a licence, a certificate, a plate or a policy with FRSC, an insurer or any registry. We look at what the owner shows us.
12. Responsibility
- The owner, as the carrier, is responsible for the car, the driver and the journey.
- The owner insures the car and is responsible for that insurance. Before a car is listed, its owner must hold a commercial motor policy that covers travellers. ePoynt does not insure the car, the driver or you. Claims for injury or loss go to the owner's insurer.
- We are responsible for the booking service: taking your booking, holding your seat, taking your payment, sending your messages, checking owners, drivers and cars as section 11 says, and making the refunds these terms promise.
- If we fail in the booking service, our liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the booking. Where the law gives you more protection than that, the law applies.
- Your rights under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 stay in full.
13. Complaints and disputes
- Tell us first, at info@epoynt.com or on 0806 154 8208. We reply within 7 days.
- If we cannot settle it, you may complain to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, or take the matter to a court.
- These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
14. Changes to these terms
We will update these terms when the service changes, and the "last updated" date above will move. A booking is governed by the terms in force when you paid for it.
